Effect of the Seasonal Variation in the Extrinsic Incubation Period on the Long Term Behavior of the Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever Epidemic

چکیده
The incidences of dengue hemorrhagic disease (DHF) over the long term exhibit a seasonal behavior. It has been hypothesized that these behaviors are due to the seasonal climate changes which in turn induce a seasonal variation in the incubation period of the virus while it is developing the mosquito. The standard dynamic analysis is applied for analysis the Susceptible-ExposedInfectious-Recovered (SEIR) model which includes an annual variation in the length of the extrinsic incubation period (EIP). The presence of both asymptomatic and symptomatic infections is allowed in the present model. We found that dynamic behavior of the endemic state changes as the influence of the seasonal variation of the EIP becomes stronger. As the influence is further increased, the trajectory exhibits sustained oscillations when it leaves the chaotic region. Keywords—Chaotic behavior, dengue hemorrhagic fever, extrinsic incubation period, SEIR model.

Clinicohematological Profiles of Hospitalized Patients with Dengue in Kolkata in 2012 Epidemic, West Bengal
Dengue usually presents itself with subclinical or mild infection to full blown dengue fever (DF) to dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) and dengue shock syndrome (DSS). In Kolkata, dengue started in 1824 followed by five epidemics that occurred in 1836, 1906, 1911, 1923 and 2005. The aim of this investigation is to study the clinicohematological correlation of all patients with respect to their gen...
متن کاملEffect of temperature on the vector efficiency of Aedes aegypti for dengue 2 virus.
The effect of temperature on the ability of Aedes aegypti to transmit dengue (DEN) 2 virus to rhesus monkeys was assessed as a possible explanation for the seasonal variation in the incidence of dengue hemorrhagic fever in Bangkok, Thailand. In two laboratory experiments, a Bangkok strain of Ae. aegypti was allowed to feed upon viremic monkeys infected with DEN-2 virus. Blood-engorged mosquitoe...
متن کاملAn Imported Case of Dengue Fever in Iran, 2015
Background: Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne disease which is not known to be endemic in Iran. Case Report: In October 2015, a 32-year-old Iranian woman was admitted with acute unexplained high-grade fever, headache, pain, rash, diarrhea, leukopenia and elevated liver enzymes after returning from India. Serological and molecular analysis for Dengue virus (DENV) infection revealed positive ...
متن کاملCross-protective immunity can account for the alternating epidemic pattern of dengue virus serotypes circulating in Bangkok.
Dengue virus, the causative agent of dengue fever and its more serious manifestation dengue hemorrhagic fever, is widespread throughout tropical and subtropical regions. The virus exists as four distinct serotypes, all of which have cocirculated in Bangkok for several decades with epidemic outbreaks occurring every 8-10 years. We analyze time-series data of monthly infection incidence, revealin...
متن کاملDengue hemorrhagic fever epidemiology in Thailand: description and forecasting of epidemics.
Despite the use of a variety of control strategies, dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) control is a major and permanent challenge for public health services in Thailand and in Southeast Asia. In order to improve the efficiency of DHF control in Thailand, these activities have to concentrate on areas and populations at higher risk, which implies early identification of higher incidence periods. A re...
